Bio
John Gibson is currently reading for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree alongside plastic surgery training in the Welsh centre for Burns & Plastic Surgery.
John obtained his medical degree in Cardiff in 2013 prior to commencing his Foundation Training in Wales. He completed his Core Surgical Training in Scotland, obtaining his Membership to The Royal College of Surgeons (Glasgow) in 2016. In 2019, he completed a masters of Research (MRes) degree with Edge Hill University, creating a holistic needs assessment for burns patients.
John’s current research interest is in the Use of Big Data in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, specifically investigating the association of anxiety and depression in patients with facial scarring and the epidemiology of melanoma across Wales. He is well supported by the ReconRegen Research Group (the largest plastic surgery research group in the UK) and the SAIL databank based at Swansea University Medical School. This collaboration aims to transform psychological services for patients with facial scars and to streamline care for skin cancer patients in Wales.
